FEATURE
Judge's comments: Nice weather feature with good timing! Photographer could consider a tighter crop/longer focal length to bring in the right 2/3 of the frame, as this is where the image really shines. (IPTC info was blank!)

NEWS
Judge's comments:
1. A nice moment that sums up a news event. The subject’s tears introduce an emotional element, further drawing in the viewer. The crop is a bit tight; an angle that included other protesters could have added more context for scale. Of course this is not always possible, but the subject’s identity would have been nice to have. I would love to read a personal note on the story behind the man’s tears.
2. Good work to the photographer in capturing an unfortunate spot news event as it unfolded.

WASHINGTON, DC (13/12/14) - A demonstrator raises his fist in solidarity at a rally in the Capitol of the United States, Washington DC, on Sat. Dec. 13, 2014. The march, organized by Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network, and led by the families of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, and Michael Brown, was in protest of police violence after the recent verdicts to not indict the police killers of Brown and Garner. BOWMANVILLE, Ont. (1/12/14) -- A fatal collision involving a dump truck which careened over the median heading westbound on the 401 near Bowmanville occurred closing down both directions of the highway. The driver, who died as a result, was thrown from the vehicle as it plowed through the median and overturned, bursting into flames. Photo by Andrew Johnson

PORTRAIT
Judge's comments: Photographers should be reading the descriptions of the categories as mentioned in the rules, and check their photos against this. Of the three images entered, only one fit the category of a portrait/personality.

MULTIPLE PICTURES
Judge's comments:
1. Nice idea, a good way to document this protest. The photographer could consider tightening the edit to help tell the story. The images that stand out are the tight images that focus on the faces of the protesters. Tightening the composition to be consistent in this way across the package could help. Just an idea. (IPTC info was incomplete in pix b to i!)
2. A good start to this one. Lots of nice frames of the trucker/student/dad in action. Again, knowing what narrative you're trying to share can help inform what pictures you need. I'd love to learn more about who Connors is. We learn from the pix that he's a trucker, but the details about leaving school and supporting his family aren't shown. Once these moments are captured, the edit can be tightened to eliminate repetitive images (eg. 02, 07, 08, and 09 are different images, but say a similar thing).

Tony Connors has been driving transport trucks around Canada and the United States for the past 25 years. Connors took a hiatus from driving to pursue a BA in political science at St. Thomas University in Fredericton, NB but had to return to his former job to support his family.
